Hubble 5 is a small monotype print, about 15 cm x 15 cm. I made it by gel printing, using acrylics on paper. I was experimenting with ways to get soft blended colours. The similarity to the images from the Hubble Telescope soon became apparent. Inspired by the astronomical photographs from Hubble of nebulae, stars and galaxies, I made a series of prints
The print is small, but I made it in exactly the same way as the larger pieces in the shop. I use multiple thin layers of paint so that underlying colours show through. This produces subtle gradations of colour. The multiple layers also create a visible physical texture to the surface.
Each print is in a mount, with a backing card and all in a protective cello bag. The image is 15 cm x 15 cm (6″ x 6″) while the mount will fit a 25 cm x 25 cm (10″ x 10″) frame.
